How often are Red Sox games rained out? Are games more likely to be postponed a bit or moved to another day?
I'm coming up from Orlando for a game next week and am surprising my boyfriend with Red Sox tickets. I was just wondering what usually happens to games at Fenway when it's raining. Do they usually hold off for a few hours or do they usually wait and play the next day? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
They postpone it for as long as they can depending on the weather report. If the forecast says it may clear, they might hold the game off for possible up to 2.5 - 3 hours. If the forecast shows downpours all night, they will call the game off and reschedule, normally as a double header if possible.
If it's a weekend series the double header might be played then, or they may push it back to later in the season depending on the schedule. Unfortunately, the weather doesn't look too promising for next week:

Who beleives the Red Sox still will win the division by 5 games or over?
I mean come on the yankees since the allstar break have played teams that none of which are over .500, they have the orioles coming up, then 14 against the angels, tigers, and red sox. The sox still have 6 games against them, the red sox are now going on their stretch of crappy teams, while the yankees are facing the tougher part of their schedule. All in all, the sox could win the division by about 7 games, more if ortiz' hitting comes around.

It'll be somewhere between 6-9 games, more than five, but still in the single digits.
Yea, the Yankees have had a very easy schedule during their winning streak, but things will turn around. The Yanks' bats are gonna cool down and their pitching won't be able to hold the lead into the later innings.
People forget that the Red Sox still have the best record in the MLB, there's a reason for that. They'll still win the division.

On Friday night the Red Sox will be retiring number 6 in honor of Johnny Pesky. Do you think it is deserved?
Personally, I am so excited that they are doing that for Johnny. He has been Mr Red Sox for so long and it is fitting that they are honoring him in this way. He will be 89 years old on Saturday and I am thrilled for him!
You are right. See, this is why I get ticked off when a guy who deserves to get into the Hall of Fame doesn't because he doesn't have glamorous numbers. Pesky is a great representative of the Red Sox and of baseball. Screw numbers. Greatness has to do with more than piling up big numbers. He deserves it. If people ask 50 years from now what he did to deserve it, people can just say, "Well, you had to be there."
