Hammer????
Am confused, just got back from B&Q - How much should a 3 pound hammer cost?
A 3lb Lump hammer can and dose vary in price, quality
makes prices differ, some can be purchased for as
little as one pound but be very careful it doesn't fly of the shaft at the first blow.
How big of a problem is an exposed hammer on a small revolver for conceal carry?
I want to buy a small, .38 special revolver to use for conceal carry. I prefer to shoot revolvers single action rather than double action. However, am I taking a risk by buying a double action revolver with an exposed hammer rather than a concealed hammer? I have tried the shrouded hammer revolvers and don't like them. I like shooting single action much better but I am worried the hammer could accidentally snag on something and cock while in my pocket. Should I play it safe and buy the hammerless revolver? Or will I be ok buying the exposed hammer version? I don't like the hammerless version (concealed hammer) as much because you have to shoot it double action. I don't want the gun going off in my pocket though cause the hammer catches on something. What are your thoughts?
I have a 357 revolver that I carry in my purse. I've had no problem with the hammer moving. It is pretty hard to pull back so I really don't worry about it.
What could be the source of water hammer?
It seems that plumbing in my house has a problem with water hammer. First, I thought it only occurs when toilet tanks are filling back with water, but I realized that it happens whenever water is used anywhere in home. It just that water hammer is not as bad when I use faucets. So I've been trying to figure out where or source of this water hammer. By listening to where the sound is coming from, and by touching the water pipe with my finger tips, I learned that sound is loudest where the main water pipe comes in through the concrete wall. I guess I can install a water hammer arrestor. But I am trying to understand why water hammer is occuring. Here is my guess. Please let me know what you think. There is a branch near this point where pipe leads out to the faucet outside the house. While water tries to flow further into the house, perhaps vacumm is being created in this branch pipe and causing water hammer. Is this possible? What do you think? Thanks!
1. Noise comes from pipes near water main, not the toilets. noise just louder with toilets, reduced intake valve and reduced noise
2. With my fingertips, I can feel the pipe vibrating.
3. Perhaps water traveling to water softner and bouncing back?
4. Checked diaphram valve on toilet, it looked fine.

I guess I'll just install couple water arrestors and see what happens...
A Plummer once told me that the water hammer was caused by air in the water lines. To cure this he shut off the water at the main and drained all the line by opening all the faucets. After water quit running he turned the water back on leaving the all the faucets open after about a half hour he started turning the faucets off one at a time. When he was finished there was no more hammering sounds. When I say all the facuets I mean all outside and inside.

Sounds like you have air in your lines somewhere. Possible leak that is letting the air in even after you have ran the water for five minutes.
What brand/model hammer should I buy my husband as a gift?
Right now he has a 1pound 2 oz hammer, Brand name is Douglas, it's about 3 years old ad would like to get him another for his birthday. He is a framer. I know he has mentioned to our younger son that he want to get a new one. Should I get a a wood or fiblerglass one, what should I look for. There are so many kinds.
That tends to be a personal choice...better to get a gift certificate or ask him. I would choose fiberglas, but...
