Lane 1 News

not using any staggering, how much longer is lane 8 vs lane 1 or 2 on a standard track?

for distance running training, not competition, how far would lets say running 4 laps on lane 8 as opposed to running on lanes 1 or 2, approximately?

It depends on the width of the lanes and the radius of the curve, but each lane is about 7 meters farther than the next inside lane.
So lane two is about 407 meters and lane three is about 414 meters, and so on.
If you ran 4 laps in lane 8 you would be running about 49 meters farther each lap so the total would be about 196 meters longer or about 596 meters.

What do I do if a 1 lane road splits into 2?

If I'm on a 1 lane road and it splits right in the middle into a 2 lane road, do I go into the right lane or the left. Have a drive test and really need to know.

never trust anyone who spells "like", "lyk". Left is fast, right is slow. For your test, however, stay to the right. Left is
called the fast lane, but it is really the passing lane. I don't know about other states, but NJ cops are pretty picky about that. They will ride down the left side and tail you until you get to the right. So, yeah. Good luck on your test. Stay to the right, and you'll do fine. Don't speed. And don't get freaked out because the teacher is a jerk and/or doesn't say anything to you. They're all that way. AND finally, when parallel parking, TURN ON YOUR SIGNAL. I almost failed because I forgot to when I took mine a couple years ago. Thank goodness I saved it mid wheel cut. Lol.

How many people can you have on 1 lane when you go 10-pin bowling?

I'm thinking of going bowling soon with lots of friends and wanted to know if we could all use 1 lane...

I went bowling not so long ago and there were 7 of us on one lane.
Depending on which bowling alley you go to i think the most people on one lane is 12 but some place are unlimited.

Hope this helps!

How much shorter is the total distance I run if I'm in lane 1 compared to lane 5 on a high school track?

Given that the track is 400 meters and each lane is the standard width - is that 3 feet or 4 feet?

If the track were a true circle with radius r, then the distance run on the inside track is 2 x pi x r. If the outside lane is s feet from the inside lane then the radius of the outside lane is r + s, so the distance run is 2 x pi x (r+s) or 2 x p x r + 2 x pi x s, do the difference is 2 x pi x s. In other words, it doesn't matter what the radius of the track is, the extra distance is always 2 x pi x the difference between the inner and the outer track.

Measure the distance between lane 1 and lane 5 and multiply by 2 x pi. You will find in practice, though that either the start lines are staggered or the finish lines are, so that everyone runs the same distance.

Notice that, since the only significant variable is the distance between one lane and the other, it doesn't matter if the track is an oval, the only criterion is that you run through 360 degrees - in other words, a full circle and, of course that the two runners stick to their lanes.

What is the actual distance of the outside lane on a 1/4 track?

We all know in track events the competitors run under a staggered start. The question is asked to find out the exact, or as close as possible, distance the outside lane covers. It isn't a 1/4 mile, it is further... so what is the distance?

I depends on the number of lanes and whether or not the track conforms to IAAF standards.

If it is "regualtion", the a lane is 1.25 meters wide. That means that you run and extra 1.25 x 2 x pi = 7.85+ meters per lap, per lane.

Remember if you are in lane 8, you are out 7 lanes from the curb (lane 1 is 0 lanes out from the curb) so you would be running 7 x 7.85+ = 54.98 meters extra per lap.

FYI if the track is an old quarter mile track, it's about 2.5 yds longer than a metric track, but that doesn't change the extra distance you would be running.
