Would a geomagnetic storm destroy the magnetic strip on check and credit cards?
I've been doing research on solar flares and magetic storms caused by them and so I was wondering. If an MRI can do it, couldn't a magentic storm do the same or are the storms we have seen so far not powerful enough?
No. Magnetic field would be far too weak. An MRI produces avery strong magnetic field.
What is a simple way to vent a storm door in the spring and summer in order to relieve heat build up ?
I am getting new Steel Exterior doors and I want to make sure there is not too much heat build up in between the doors. I thought about just putting the screeens in the storm door, but this would lessen the security of the storm door. I also thought about leaving the storm door slightly opened about 2 inches to vent it. How big of a vent would you recommend on a storm door to relieve heat build up.
if you are getting steel doors then nobody's getting in, the storm door is just for show at that point =) so you should be fine with just screens. but if you would prefer the full security of your door then i would recommend using a all weather paint on the exterior of the steel door. that is what we use on our houses and we have never had a call back saying that the paint was peeling or buckling from the heat. and with the brutal summers we get here in Louisiana that says a lot for this paint. there is also another kind of paint we use in special circumstances but i can't remember what it's called. just go to the paint counter at you local hardware store and tell them what's going on. in my experience this guys are very knowledgeable and will help you in any way they can. hope this helps
What is the difference between a tropical storm and a sub tropical storm?
I was just watching the weather channel and they already have andrea in the atlantic ocean? They said it is a sub tropical storm. And i read the water has to be warm for tropical storms to form, the water temp is in the upper 50s and lower 60s. How is this even possible.
A tropical storm is an organized system of strong thunderstorms with a defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds between 17 and 32 m/s (34–63 kt, 39–73 mph, or 62–117 km/h). At this point, the distinctive cyclonic shape starts to develop, although an eye is not usually present. Government weather services, other than the Philippines, first assign names to systems that reach this intensity (thus the term named storm).[
A subtropical cyclone is a weather system that has some characteristics of a tropical cyclone and some characteristics of an extratropical cyclone. They can form in a wide band of latitude, from the equator to 50°.
These storms can have maximum winds extending further from the centre than in a purely tropical cyclone. The maximum recorded wind speed for a subtropical storm is 33 m/s (119 km/h, 65 knots, or 74 mph), also the minimum for a hurricane. In the Atlantic Basin, the United States NOAA classifies subtropical cyclones similar to their tropical cousins, based on maximum sustained surface winds. Those with winds below 18 m/s, 65 km/h, 35 kts, or 39 MPH are called subtropical depressions, while those at or above this velocity are referred to as subtropical storms.[3]
Subtropical cyclones are also more likely than tropical cyclones to form outside of a region's designated hurricane season. Subtropical Storm Ana (which became Tropical Storm Ana) in mid-April of the 2003 hurricane season is such a case.
How do nitrates in a lightning storm affect the human psyche?
Somewhere I heard that it revitalises the human body as much as it does plants. How do the nitrates make plants greener and could nitrates have a sort of euphoric effect on humans? It might just be because I love lightning, but I always feel happier during a lightning storm. I'm from the Highveld in South Africa where we get significant lightning storms that light the sky up like a disco, so I'm not talking about a few flashes of lightning, I'm talking about a flash of lightning every three seconds.

However I have never known anything other than ill effects on humans to be attributed to Nitrate, nor nitrogen oxides in the air.
Nitrates in the soil encourage green leafy growth, but then so does water! In UK water tends to fall out of the sky in generous quantities during lightning storms.
Also, in the British climate, lightning storms tend to end an uncomfortable hot humid period so most people feel happy, as well as having the exciting novelty of a sound and light show.
I have no specific knowledge whether Nitric oxide, as involved in the effects of Viagra could get from the air to body tissues in any effective quantity, but I very much doubt it.
