Climbing Shoes?
I am joining a climbing team in Montana and need to buy new climbing shoes price dosnt really matter but I want nice ones and functional ones Im a 5 foot 4 girl who has some climbing experience and will be climbing in the gym,comps and outdoors. Any suggestions? Oh and some links would rock and I also want cute colors if possible. Thanks!!!
There are many good brands of climbing shoe but the most important thing is to get something that fits well to your foot. Some comppanies make shoes that are too narrow for some peoples' feet, etc. The best thing to do is shop around, try on the shoes (use them on a climbing wall in the store if possible - REI often has these) and make sure they fit snugly and dont rub on different parts of your feet. You may be able to order different colors of the model you pick, but it's more important to pick a good shoe first, then go for looks after.
What shoes are good for rock climbing?
Rock climbing is just a casual hobby, so I don't want to fork out the money on professional climbing shoes. Can I use sneakers or some other kind of shoe? What actually makes a good climbing shoe? I will be using mostly indoor walls.
ive been an avid rock climber for almost ten years...get rock climbing shoes if you intend to climb regularly. there is nothing more scary than placing your foot on a ledge no wider than a centimeter and feeling your feet slipping around inside your shoe. talk about a major sphincter check. plus climbing shoes are designed to place the toes in the most powerful position to allow for adequate stepping and their soles are made of sticky soft rubber so slippage is minimized. going barefooted may seem logical, but stepping on sharp points of rock and placing all your weight on it can be excuriatingly painful. plus, sweaty feet equals slippery feet. there are large numbers of climbing shoes that are quite affordable as well. look at brands like mad rock, evolv, mammut, or search websites like REI.com. ive seen shoes as cheap as 50 to 60 dollars.....about the same cost as running shoes.....if youre going to climb regularly, this is the best advice i can give you, from one climber to another...good luck and aloha
What rock shoes should I use for climbing above water?
I like to climb and I like the lake so I thought I would mix them.... so last weekend I went rock jumping and the tought occured I should try to climb back up! Well the hand holds were good but no footholds for my water shoes were big enough. With my rock climbing shoes (evolvs) it would be easy! They are synthetic but I really don't wanna ruin them with out a backup pair! So maybe I should go get another pair or are my synthetic ones good enough?

nope, yours shoes can shrink, but the stealth rubber on the bottom will not; therefore, if you want to save some bucks and get your climbing shoes resoled (when the wear out) you will not be able to. i would purchase another pair, or start carrying tevas, chacos or whatever with you.

I'm looking into taking up rock climbing, well bouldering to start with, and was wondering what make of shoes i should be looking to buy?
As others have mentioned, the number one thing when choosing a climbing shoe is the fit. It doesn't matter how cool it looks or what the manufacturer says it's good for. If you aren't comfortable in your shoes, you wont be able to stand on your feet, and you aren't going to have nearly as much fun.

Typically for bouldering you'll want a slipper, as you don't need to keep your shoes on for longer periods of time. Also, some people tell folks who are just starting to get a cheaper shoe, but I don't agree. Go with the best shoe you can buy, if you stick with it, you'll have a great shoe, and if you don't, you'll be able to sell it much easier than if you are trying to get rid of a crappy shoe.
