Rock Climbing Equipment News

How do I sell or where do I go to sell new rock climbing equipment thats never been used?

All new, never been used, top of the line mountain climbing gear for sale. Most gear is Black Diamond. Just about everything you need for rock climbing. Have sit and chest harnesses, climbers belts, tape slings(various sizes), 15 to 20 carabiners, 9 quickdraw carabiners with slings, 1 flexible friend, 1 friend, 1 rock on a rope, 1 large anka, 1 figure-eight, 1 lower tuber, army green rope(170ft), 1 chalk bag w/chalk, 2 super cams, 1 ascender, 2 belays devices.$1000.00 worth of equipment. Will sell for $600.00

problem is not many climbers will touch gear with an unknown history, especially non metal climbing gear. if I was you I'd go to a local crag & talk to climbers there. if the biners, cams & stuff look good somebody will buy it, if they look like they've been dropped from several hundred feet down a slab nobody will buy them..... the rope & slings will likely be junk or useable only in a non climbing application, that's the reality, I know I would not tie into a rope I didn't know, my life is worth more than a few saved dollars.....

Rock climbing equipment?

i want to give to my bf rock climbing equipment... what should i buy, what branches etc?

i agree with the previous persons answer .. a coupon would be a good present...

i would also suggest something that doesnt require trying it on... like a set of quickdraws if he hasnt got some.. or they are old and manky:P...
or a rope... you can get various designs etc...

you could also buy a chalk bag... depending on how expeensive you want to go:P...

boulder mats/ trip to go climbing together somewhere nice/ the possibilities are endless.. lol

hope you find wat you want!

Rock Climbing Equipment Help?!?

I am a 22 yr old F who would like to begin rock climbing as my next hobby. I'm bored with the gym and have heard positive things. I would like to move back to CO and do some actual outdoor climbing. anyway.....

I need your help. I don't want to rent equipment because I will buy it eventually no matter what as I said "next hobby". I already received a yr membership to a gym as a present.

What exactly will I need??

Shoes
Harness
Belay Device
Helmet (are they mandatory??)
Rope?
Carabiners?

What are "the brands" to get. Can anyone please inform what I should purchase and maybe add some links or websites to help me out?

Thanks so much!!!

what do you think of this?... http://www.rei.com/outlet/product/774578

Advise is welcome as well but please lets be nice to one and other : )
Yea my membership is at an indoor gym but the cost there to rent is $8 a session. I can buy new equipment after just 10 visits(I get a little obsessed when I find a new exciting hobby that will be 2 weeks = 10 visits) and I have the money so that's not the point. I understand the talking to other woman climbers, that's a great idea(sound like a ditz but I didn't think of that) I've never done outdoor and I lived in CO for 2 yrs. I did very basic indoor classes when I was like 11 so I know absolutely nothing. I am athletic, I ride horses, do the gym thing, b-ball = A+, swimming too. I'm in RI on the east coast and to boot I'm shy as sin just moved from CO originally from WI. The whole going to the climbing gym in the first place is hard : ( lol.

Thanks for all the information would love to talk as I get more into it. Also, Backcountry.com = awesome. and after living in CO REI is fantastic if not beautiful, you probably know this but they have a wall at their flagship store. Thanks!!

OK...this is gonna be a long one. First things first...

SHOES: Get what is comfortable. Climbing shoes are a highly personal fit - your street shoe size is just a reference point. I'm mens 11 and my climbing size is 9.5. I would go to an EMS or REI and ask an associate for help. Find what is comfortable. Start out with a good all around shoe such as a 5.10 Coyote. Expect to spend up to $80 for a starter pair. I would recommend lace-ups for a first pair, and a somewhat rigid sole. Don't buy shoes online until you find out which size and make you want. FYI the shoes will stretch. Leather stretches up to one full size. They claim synthetic doesn't stretch - it's bull. Synthetic will stretch 1/3 of a size. Bear that in mind.

Harness: get what's comfortable. Men's and Women's harnesses are very different so make sure you have the right type. Make sure the waist belt fits over your hips snugly and that the leg loops can be tightened. I would recommend a good amount of padding (I have a mammut which is plenty for me). Try to find one that won't restrict mobility.

Belay device - go with either a Gri-Gri or an ATC. Gri-Gri's are standard starter belay devices and feature a self-locking design in case the belayer screws up. ATC's are cheaper and more versatile, but don't feature the locking design.

Helmets...not necessary for indoor climbing - not essential for outdoor, but never a bad thing to bring along. If you're inside I wouldn't worry about it. See what you think once you start going outside.

Caribiners...get at least one large locker - screw gate or triple lock it doesn't really matter - that's personal preference. You won't need nonlockers and quickdraws until you start lead climbing.

Rope - worry about that after you start lead. For indoor toproping it's not needed.

Chalk bag - any will do. Some gyms don't allow loose chalk, so I would get a chalk ball, but that's just me.

I would recommend waiting a few months before trying lead or going outside (and then go with an experienced climber).

That REI harness package should do fine. I would go to a store and try the harness out first to make sure you like it. You will be spending countless hours in that harness - you might as well like it. Don't skimp it either - you'll get your money's worth.

Stay away from gear4rocks - they sell cheap gear online but are not UIAA certified.
