Bike Shorts?
I am starting to ride my bike more and I will bike 5 or more miles a day during the week and more on the weekends. We have a lot of bike paths/trails in our area and I plan to go on those often...I'm wondering if it's worth it to get bike shorts. I've never owned a pair, but I've heard they're really comfortable on longer rides. I just want to know if it's worth buying a pair of bike shorts for the type/amount of biking I'll be doing.
Only you can answer this for sure. I ride with my kids maybe 10 or 12 miles and will wear regular shorts. But I ride 100+ miles a week and use cycling shorts for most all of the miles. If you have a current problem with chaffing etc. try 'em thay are the best for cycling for sure. For a 5 mile ride I likely wouldn't bother, but I ride 20 to 40 miles per ride and for that I do. i always wear gloves, helmet and cycling shoes - unless I'm tooling around the 'hood.
What do most people wear or don't wear underwear in a pair of bike shorts ?
My son wears his shorts butt naked and I think he should put on cotton underwear to keep him dry. I think he's crazy to wear bike shorts, tights, bright jerseys, and reflective jackets in public but , he's a one of those stupid cyclists on the road. What should I do leave him alone or tell him to wear cotton underwear at all times when he rides. What do you think should he not continue going butt naked in shorts or his he the cyclist right ?
with padded bike shorts....... you wear absolutely nothing underneath.
otherwise you getting rubbing.... soreness.... rash..... not pretty.

if your looking for lycra shorts, i recommend Specialized. i bought my pair for $60 about 6 months ago and they definately ease up the stress of sitting in the saddle for hours. they look pretty hot too cuz they have the red "S" logo on each side.

Do I wear underwear in mountain bike shorts?
I know road bike shorts are made to wear without underwear, but mountain bike shorts are baggier. Do I wear underwear with mountain bike shorts? Thanks.
It's really up to you, but in most cases I would recommend no underwear ... the seams in the underwear will cause irritation just as with road shorts.
Should I change my black bike shorts?
I bought some black bike shorts to wear under my short dress. I tried them on and they're a bit tight. Should I take them back to the store?
Bike shorts are supposed to be tight (compression and whatnot).
If you don't like the fit, take them back, however if they have a built-in underwear, you probably can't due to hygiene laws which make it illegal to return underwear to stores.
