Tom's golf game is still suffering, and he's convinced his driver is at fault.

Golf Clubs?
I play golf for my school and have a 4 year old set which I got at Dick's for $200. The clubs are short for me (about 1.5-2 inches to short). I definitely need new clubs and was wondering about getting the Cobra L4V driver and the Cobra S9 irons. Are they any good? Also what type of shaft should I get? Stiff, X-stiff? I am like a 25 handicapper.
Also, do you recommend any other clubs?
Up to 2 years ago(age 19 at the time) I was still playing with my junior clubs(24 handicap) so I got a second hand set of Ping G2 High Launch irons.
They were dirt cheap because they were second hand but still as good as ever. I used to slice but they're offset and I now hit straight or with a slight draw. Wouldn't change them for anything and I'm now a 12 handicapper.
What type of golf clubs does a beginner need for a round of golf?
I just finished up a golf class last week put on by ESPN in which they gave you a set of Nike Ignite clubs to get started, namely; 4-9 irons, pw, 3-hybrid and a putter. I added a cheap driver (which I'm planning on upgrading to a Nike Summo) and a Wilson 58 deg sand wedge as well. I have played the past two months with this set and feel that I may need more fairway clubs especially for the 5 pars. I'm getting mixed up between some saying I need a 3 and a 5 wood while others say I need 5, 7 and 9 wood. As well, I'm mixed up whether I should get hybrids (like the #3 that I have) to take the place of the woods. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should get to complete my set? BTW, I do like wedges and would like to add either a LW or a GW to my set. Thanks!
The ideal set for the intermediate golfer would start with Game Improvement irons. You still need forgiveness but you'd also like a little more feel and control. If you tend to hit your irons well you might be ready to consider a regular 4 iron, otherwise stay with your hybrid 4.
For your distance clubs add a little less loft on those fairway woods and hybrids to maximize distance. You might be ready to drop your 5 hybrid and replace it with a 3 hybrid.
Your driver is still oversized with about 10-12 degrees of loft to maximize distance and accuracy. Shaft selections may be the most important component. You want a shaft that matches your swing speed and ball flight requirements. Perhaps a draw bias to help get the drive moving a little more right to left.
Your wedges can be reconfigured. A gap wedge or a lob wedge are possibly good additions. If three wedges are your choice you may want to distribute the lofts from your PW to your LW (46, 52, 58 degrees). You may want wedges with less bounce so you can hit them off of tighter lies.
For a putter an intermediate you may have already settled on what works for you, but if you are ready to try something new, one of the new MOI maxed mallets would be a good choice.
Set configuration should be: Woods (1, 3, 5) Hybrids (3, 4) Irons (Game Improvement) (5-PW, SW, LW), Putter
What specific golf clubs does a beginner need to play?I know you need a driver and a putter but what else?
I just ordered a driver on line and that is all I own. I'm going to practice driving at a virtual golf place until it gets warmer outside. I am an absolute beginner. What would be the minimum clubs I would need to actually play a round? I am an older (54) female so think the hybrids would be good for me. I am not actually looking for brand recommendations here, but club types. That said, the Callaway GES system sounds good to me because it apparently only has seven clubs which sounds about right to me but I am having trouble finding it. Does anyone know how I could replicate that buying individual clubs? I don't really want a full set, at least not yet. And carrying 14 clubs around, many of which I probably wouldn't use at least not soon, sounds like a waste of energy. So what is the minimum and what are they? Please be specific because a lot of what I have read is pretty confusing. So many choices! Thanks.
I am 58 yr old golfer - been playing for 18 months. I use Driver, 3 wood, 4 iron 6 iron 9 iron pitching wedge sand wedge and putter. My irons are all hybrid, and all my clubs are ladies grade with graphite shafts. Very easy to use. Good luck, you are starting a brand new life. I wish I had started years ago.
What are good golf clubs and how much should I expect them to cost?
Hi, my husband loves to golf, but needs new clubs. I don't know anything about golf, but I would like to surprise him for our anniversary with a new set. What are some good brands, and how much can I expect to spend?
Don't even consider choosing his clubs for him. Clubs are so individual and high end clubs do require proper fitting by a professional. Callaway, Ping and Taylor made are amongst the best but Mizuno, Hogan and Adams amongst other are good as well.
Go to the nearest discount golf store in your area and get a $1,500. gift certificate. You could get away with less or pay even more it is all about your budget. If you want a complete set of top end clubs, expect to pay $1,000 for a good set of Irons, $up to 1,000 for a good set of 3 woods (metals), $200 each for any Hybrids, $200 for a putter and $500 for a set of wedges. A matching manufactures bag would run around $250.
You decide how much he will decide what. That will work.
What brands of golf clubs would you suggest for a person who prefers Ram Golf brand golf clubs?
I have had some FX 2 clubs a while back, but it seems that Ram golf clubs are becoming more and more scarce stateside. What alternative brands would you suggest that have a similar feel?
I know there are Ram LX 400 irons available on Amazon, also Wilson Ultra, Top Flite, Wilson Staff are some of the less expensive sets, if that's what you're looking for.
