Health Information Management News

People in the Health Information Management field: what would be the better option?

Ok, so I am going to enroll in graduate school. I already have my bachelors in Health Information Management and I am now a certified Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). I am now deciding whether to major in Health Administration or Health Policy and Management. Which would be the smarter option?

Either degree will add to your knowledge and job advancement./

Which is better Health care administration or health information management?

I want a career in health care, but no patient care-business side. Would a RHIA degree or a bachelor's in Health Management be a better career step. I will eventually get my master's.

I agree that health care administration and health information management are among good options for a career in the business side of health care. Health care administration is focused on the overall administration of the business of health care. Health information management is focused on management of health care using pertinent information; management of such information is vital to the success of health enterprises of substantial size. Because you plan to go on to get your masters, you might consider getting your bachelors in health care administration, and then specialize in some aspect of health information management for your masters. The masters degree is usually more specialized than the bachelors degree. I am not in the health care field, but I have experience advising higher management.

how much is a bachelor of science degree in health information management worth?

Texas, trying to see if anyone has a b.s. in health information management from a Texas university. such as texas southern univ, texas state univ, etc and how much one think a degree would be worth from one of the universities. if you have 2 years under your belt prior to bachelors how much could one make up to.
thanks

A univeristy degree is only as good as the person who earned it.

In my experience it is what you do with your degree that counts--Not necessarily where you earned it!

What is the future benefit of a minor in Health Information Management?

Im currently majoring in Health Administration and thinkin of also minoring in Health Information Managment what would be the benefit towards my career if I do this?

I work in the Health Information Management field. It would be beneficial to add as a minor because right now we are working with many different clients (doctors offices) who are switching from the old paper charts to electronic medical records. In the future many more hospitals and offices will be implementing the same types of systems that we offer. It is definitely the wave of the future. We also offer billing services to doctors. We help them manage their insurance claims, collections, etc. so they can focus on the actual practice of medicine. This is a really common thing within smaller practices (1-10 doctors) that can't afford to employ every type of employee that they need. If you are versed in information management you can offer solutions to your place of employment to cut overhead costs by outsourcing some of the more menial aspects of running a hospital or office.

what are some careers in health information management in which medical terminology is needed?

I have to write a one page paper on careers in the health information management field in which medical terminology plays a critical role. It sounds easy, but I'm having trouble narrowing all the information down to one page. Can someone help me?

Careers requiring knowledge in medical terminology would include;Hospital medical records staff,Medical office assistants, school nurses or health assistants,Insurance company claims adjustors, human resources staff with any company offering health benefits to their employees, and the list goes on.
