What is the difference between rugby cleats and football cleats?

Get forward boots, you'll need them for the extra padding on the toes and around the ankle. Contrary to the previous post I can't see forward boots causing ankle weakness. Most taper towards the back of the boot anyway, they just give you a little extra padding around the ankle bone but not really much support.
I wouldn't want to play in the pack with the lower cut back boots or soccer cleats for two reasons:
1st, your toes, ankles get stepped on regularly
2nd, if you pushed hard enough you'll push them right off your feet.

i wanna play rugby and so far the cheapest rugby cleats i've found are $50. and i can't really spend that cause i spent alot on other equipment yesterday. also i said soccer cause your allowed to have soccer cleats too.

I'm not sure if its an absolute regulation but my sons always had to have metal studs ( the plastic or part plastic ones often get cut up and can inflict a lot of damage ) One of my sons has always insisted on proper rugby boots with a higher ankle support while the other prefers soccer-style boots with the studs changed. Have a look at the link below ( not that I'm necessarily endorsing them ) but it gives you an idea It can be a problem buying boots since the traditional sports shops all went into the fashion business.

No. The toe spike in Football Cleats are illegal in Rugby. It also depends on the postion your playing, forwards need more ankle support due scrummaging etc. Check out worldrugby.com.
