Softball Catchers Equipment News

DOes anybody kno where i can get cheap catcher's equipment for softball? (fastpitch)?
I'm taking a camp to learn how to catch, and i need my own gear if i'm gonna do it on a team. (i hate borrowing other people's equipment.) i'm trying to save up money for it, and i need to know what the cheapest i can get for. (not used) thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
whats the difference in cathers equipment in baseball and softball?
my girlfriend has been doing softball all her life and she is great at it. she plays catcher. now i used to play baseball for a year or two but i kinda let it go.
now i wanna get back into it and i wanna try for catcher and see how it is and so we have something we can relate to and help eachother with.
i know the chest guard is different but i dont know if the helmet, glove, and shin guards are different.
we play for the school and the seasons are at different times of the year so i was wondering if id have to buy a whole new set of catchers equipment or if i could use some of hers if it fits?
also if you guys have some sites i can look at or tips for playing catcher that would greatly help... thanks
plz help
thanks alot and much love
appreciate it.
question for softball (slow pitch) catchers?
I'm male & am going to play catcher for a slow pitch softball team this year.
What equipment - if any - do you use? I'm not sure any protective equipment is actually mandatory - but just wondering if any would be recommended.
Same thing with the mitt....do you just use a regular ol' softball glove - or are there special catchers mitts for softball?
You have the option of using equipment or a catchers mit, but it isn't required. I would recommend a cup and a batting helmet (or catcher's helmet without the mask)--the rest is unnecessary. You can use a regular fielding glove (and probably should, since you've never used a catcher's mit). The rest of that stuff will just make you hot--the ball isn't coming fast enough to really hurt you, just look out for the bat and the occasional foul tip.
A slow pitch catcher is pretty much just the ball return for the pitcher. On many teams, the pitcher kicks the catcher off the plate and takes any plays at home. On some top teams, you'll see the catcher run to back up first base on a hit to shortstop or shallow outfield. On worse teams, it is the position that is easiest to cover (except ball return duties) by the other nine players, so it is the place to put the weakest link.
