Softballs News

softballs?

my friends told me to get the softballs harder you put them in the microwave for two minutes ive tried putting them in for three minutes but they seem not to get hard. in my league we have to buy the softballs from there and they come very very soft and when its time to play we give the pitcher our ball and they give us theirs and theirs is harder than a baseball ive hit one of their softballs (the super hard ones)and they go much farther than ours (the super super soft ones). does anybody know how to get them harder if you do please tell me. Thanks

Cold water or ice will make the ball tight and hard.

Warm water or steam will make the ball loose and soft.

But do note that in several leagues, including all of Professional Baseball and NCAA Baseball and Softball, it is not only unethical, but against the rules, to doctor the game ball by heating or cooling it prior to its use in a game. This is why, in these leagues, the umpires are in charge of inspecting and preparing the game balls for play.

In an effort to break the rules, and doctor a baseball or softball, players might elect to freeze the ball, only to warm it just before a game, or boil the ball, and freeze it just before a game, to make it appear to have a normal temperature. The outside of the ball in these cases will feel normal, but the ball's core will be at a much different temperature during the game (either hot or cool), and this gives the team that supplied the balls an unfair advantage, which is usually not regarded as an ethical maneuver.

Ask your league about the two different balls you have used in the past - the soft ones you buy versus the hard ones you get on game day. If your league has a preference, they will tell you, and you must abide by that. If they do not, then it would be fair to just go out and buy harder balls.

How does one find out what softballs are made of and what they look like inside?

I am doing a science project and I need to gather information, but I can't find out what softballs are made of or any pictures of the different steps.

Most all are made of made of high quality synthetic leather on the outside , and some have a cork center.
— The official softball shall be a regular, smooth-seam or mid youth stitch
or flat surfaced ball. The center of the ball may be made of either No. 1 quality long
fiber Kapok or a mixture of cork and rubber, hand or machine wound, with a fine
quality twisted yarn and covered with latex or rubber cement, or a solid plastic core, or it may be made of other materials approved by DSI. The cover of the ball shall be the finest quality No. 1 chrome tanned horse or cow hide cemented to the ball by application of cement to the underside of the cover and sewed with waxed thread of white or red cotton or linen. The cover of the ball may also be made of synthetic material. All softballs for DSI play will be optic yellow in color. The color of thread used in stitching the softball is optional with the manufacturer.

How many softballs will Stephenopalus toss up for Hillary?

Its no secret that he was in her camp and Bill made his career. Think he'll be fair and partisan during the debate?

Lets see

he's going to toss up as many as he can for hillary.

and charlie will too.

this will not be a fair debate, but no matter.

i have no doubt that obama will hold his own.

How to make softballs have more bounce?

How to make the softball travel farther off of the bat.

I played slow pitch after my baseball career was over and this was the rule of thumb I used for both.

Rule is to have the heaviest bat with the fastest bat speed meaning;
If you can swing a 26oz. bat at an ave. of 75mph and a 28oz. bat at the same speed then go with the 28oz.

The extra bat weight (mass) will help the ball travel a few feet farther, say normally 250' with a 26oz bat. With a 28oz bat will travel about 25 feet farther providing you hit it in the right spot.

(Bat speed + Bat weight = Distance)

When I played, I used a 26oz bat so I could wait longer to hit to the opposite field with out giving it away. When I wanted more power for the long drive, I'd switch to my 30oz bat

I was only a few mph slower with the heavier bat so I'd turn on it a little earlier

Now for fast pitch, the same rule applys; heaviest bat with the fastest swing

Why does the media grill Palin but throw softballs at Obama?

Maybe somebody should remind them that Obama is running against McCain, not Palin.

I'd like to know that myself. I really thought Charlie Gibson was above that sort of nonsense. I'm really disappointed in him. Yet, why the "nice nice" with Obama? It just doesn't make sense.
