Vintage Toys????
Did your parents save any of your old toys? If so what are they and if you have kids do they play with them? I still have all my fisher price toys like the school house with the bell on top, the farm house, click camera with the zoo pic's in it, the red apple that would chime when you move it and lots others. what about you, just courious.
Or what was your favorite toy as a kid??
yeah. I still have my teddy bear that I got for my first Christmas that was my favorite when i was litte. I think thats all I still have and I could never part with it and I am 20!
Who is getting their kids vintage toys?
From the recent poison paint and all.
I think it is good to buy the children vintage toys from GOODWILL and The Salvation Army
and thrift shops. As they are safe unlike the recalled ones this year and last.
Do you think so if the toys are in good shape and very clean?
This could be a good idea, just make sure to check out the Consumer Product Safety Commission website at www.cpsc.gov to make sure these toys haven't also been recalled. Also, remember that many toys are still manufactured right here is the USA. According to a Fox News article printed on Aug. 16th, the following toys are still made in the USA:
• Battleship
• Bicycle Playing Cards
• Boggle Jr.
• Candyland
• Chutes and Ladders
• Clue
• Connect Four
• Crayola Crayons *
• Life
• Louisville Slugger
• Monopoly
• Mouse Trap
• Operation
• Parcheesi
• Play-Doh *
• Pop-O-Matic Trouble
• Radio Flyer Discovery Wagon
• Scrabble
• Sorry
• Stratego
• Tri-ominos
• Trivial Pursuit
• Yahtzee
• Melissa and Doug U.S.A. Floor Puzzle (Most puzzles are made in the USA!)
* Note: Not all packages of Crayola Crayons and Play-Doh are made in the USA -- please check the label.
Also, anything you buy from the American Plastic Toy Company is made in America (Target sells their products).
You can also find American-made toys on these Web sites:
www.ShopForAmerica.com

I would also like to add that Little Tikes and Step 2 products are manufactured in Ohio.
A Question For Collectors of Vintage Toys and Action Figures?
Ok, I bought some late 70s/early 80s Strawberry Shortcake dolls for my sister for Christmas off of EBay. When I opened them, I noticed they smell pretty bad. I didn't expect the original smell to still be there after 28 years, but these smell pretty musty. I imagine they've been in storage for a long time.
Any collectors out there know any secrets to get rid of this smell? I'm also a collector of vintage toys, but none of my stuff has this oder. I took care of the stink in the clothes with Clorox 2 and baking soda, and it made the clothes look better too, but the actual dolls still smell. I've cleaned them in a solution of dish soap, they've been sitting in baking soda for a week, and it's still there. Any one have any ideas? I'd like for the smell to be gone before I wrap them up.
Thanks a lot.
Try vinegar and water solution one part vinegar two part water, it doesnt leave a water ring on the toy. I do have a problem with the toys i sell i usually santize them by running them through a wash cycle and then lettign them air dry in the sun. then after that i usually, but not all the time spray the toys that im selling with frebreeze.
How can I clean vintage, plastic, collectibe toys without damaging them?
I picked up a vintage millenium falcon toy for cheap at a flea market but it needs a good cleaning? any suggestions other than just water?
If it's made of plastic only then a mild warm water and dish soap solution will work. Don't immerse it, just dampen a soft cloth and wipe it clean. You can use a cotton swab to get into any hard to reach crevices. If it has any cind of paper or stickers, etc as a part of the item, then maybe a dry cloth if it's not sticky...
Are vintage Fisher Price toys safe for 1 year old?
My daughter just loves the vintage Fisher Price toys at our church. I recently bought her a 1972 toy, which she sometimes puts in her mouth. Do these old toys pose any health risks to her? Do they contain lead based paint, etc? I would just like to know for sure to be safe! Done some research online, but havn't found much information. Any answers would be appreciated!
No and "maybe". No if they have been opened and not sealed but due to no limitations in the 70's on lead paint usage I would say no unless the toy is vinyl and not plastic. Maybe if the toy is new and never been opened due to large amounts of metal they used in the 70's and these parts oxidize and you can never thoroughly clean these enough so toys without exposed metal I would say no. It's really not a good choice.
We have 2 kids ages 10 + 13 and we have never let them have pre 90's Fisher-Price due to the "unseen" dangers.
Fisher-Price can send you a testing kit and some other manufacturers offers these too.
